The WriTer* in Me!

To better understand the mind-body connection, it helps to remember that the human brain is electrical in nature. It communicates its messages to specific sites in the body by sending electrochemical impulses via the central nervous system. These electrochemical impulses and the information they contain activate cellular memory and tell the cellular structure within that specific area of the body how to reorganize itself according to the information being received. If a person is thinking a negative thought, that consequently creates a negative emotional reaction. Then, the brain responds by changing the chemistry in the electrical impulses it sends to the body's systems. These changes in chemistry are what alert the physical body that there is a problem.
Let's say that people's thoughts continually dwell on being sick and tired of their lives. The electrochemical message sent from the brain to the body is that they are sick and tired. If the thought is emotional and is strongly supported, then the body intensifies its reaction by feeling sick and tired. The stronger the thought, the stronger the chemical reaction, and the greater the chances for severe illness to occur. Understanding how the mind electrochemically dialogues with the body makes it easier to see the direct correlation between state of mind and physical health.
To show what I mean, let's use cancer as an example. Psychoneuroimmunology, the study of how emotions affect the immune system, indicates that people who are consumed with negative thoughts or who have a negative outlook on life are more susceptible to the formation of cancer. The same holds true for people who are consumed with negative emotions such as fear, anger, or frustration. Negativity wears down the immune system and leaves the body more susceptible to the creation of disease.
On the other hand, people who are optimistic and view life from a positive perspective have stronger immune systems and are able to resist infection and the formation of diseases such as cancer. What has been discovered is that when it comes to good health, positive thoughts play an important role. It also appears that a happy-go-lucky attitude can go a long way in fighting off disease and keeping us healthy.

Today i write a tribute to my sense of smell. It serves more purpose than salivating me before meal time - it helps me recall. Ever had this feeling that "Oh this scent/room smells like something/someone/someplace?" and suddenly all the memories flash through your mind like scenes record on video tapes growing mould.
I always had a keen sense of smell - i remember the scent of my first love (though i cant figure it out in my mind, i KNOW it when i smell it) and I remember the smell of my crush's room and all the intensity of feelings when i was in it. I recall my npcc times when i smell kiwi shoe polish. I recall campcraft times when i smell the combination of rain and grass. I love to inhale the first few blasts of aircon to feel the excitement of being able to sit at the front seat when i was a kid. I get nervous when i smell exam papers or rooms that smell like my exam hall (or the library). I cry when i smell my grandma/grandpa's perfume.
In fact, re-smelling something is, i think, more of a rarity then relooking or rehearing somethings, since memories can now be captured on videos and such. but smell cannot. and therefore it is precious. HAHAH ok im weird. hah but yes, i miss your scent (:so to my friends, dont change your perfume :D

Of graduation day, O levels and JC openhouse (: Everything just seem so unimportant in retrospect. Maybe in 4 years' time, not getting A for my property midterm would seem insignificant..in 10 years' time i will regret wasting my time mugging for law things i dont remember or will never use, like charge or caveat(official goodbye to O lvl physics. But i want to love my SMU life, as much as I love my NY life. to look back 4 years later when my 12 yr old youngest bro takes his O levels, to say I remember what i was referring to when i posted this entry!
and as a sidenote, i remember that october was a lovely month last year (:

yet another event (: my #N. ok i didnt really keep track of how many events i have organised but i feel a little lethargic. Especially when every time theres an event, there is bound to be conflict. needless to mention, the person who enjoys a party the least is most probably the host - i recall weaving through a huge crowd of sweaty audience when the light up happened at my Mid Autumn Festival in HC...i was just relieved, not excited. That day, i see people relaxed and engaged in the stage/stall games..but i couldn't. It actually fumes me to see my co-organisers relaxing in a corner, drinking beer while voicing a problem to me, expecting me to solve it. haha. So, this may be my last event (: unless im exceptionally inspired to do something out-of-the-world.
AND my short-lived midterms are ending :(
